Nordeste Beaches

Warm water year-round, and a completely different pace than Rio or São Paulo — but "Nordeste" covers a lot of very different towns.

Which town fits you

Aaron's pick for families

Porto de Galinhas

Calm natural pools at low tide, shallow and safe for kids, plenty of family-friendly resorts.

For couples and photos

Jericoacoara

Dunes, no paved roads, stunning sunsets — better suited to couples than to young kids.

Best value

Maragogi

Similar natural pools to Porto de Galinhas, quieter, fewer crowds, lower prices.

Is it safe to swim with kids?

This depends entirely on tide timing, not on the beach's reputation. The famous "natural pools" (piscinas naturais) of Porto de Galinhas and Maragogi are calm and shallow — but only at low tide; at high tide the same reef area can have real current. Always ask your hotel for that day's tide schedule before heading out, and never judge the water by how it looks from the sand.
